I knew this day was coming. I alluded to it here.
Last week I got my advance copy of this.
And I flipped open to this.

That’s Crystal (Tessa’s birthmom) and her children with me and my children.
It’s the September/October issue, available on newsstands soon. Or you can subscribe to Adoptive Families.
Oh! I see I’m wearing my self-beater shirt in the photo.
See what my classmates are showing and telling at Mel’s Show & Tell.

Thank you, everyone. It wouldn’t have happened without all your bloggy support.
Stephanie: It seems that you find fault with the term “logical consequence.” Unfortunately the article was edited for length, and some of the context was removed. If you read the original post on which the article was based, you’ll see that the boots were dangerously oversized as well as in violation of the school’s dress code and wholly age-inappropriate. The consequence of losing the boots in this case really would have been a “logical consequence,” one developed after a long history of dealing with Tessa’s choices of inappropriate clothing and general difficulty foreseeing the results of her actions.
Also unfortunately, my initial reaction to your comment was visceral — as would be the reaction of many parents who feel criticized, particularly those who have struggled to parent a challenging child. And, like all parents, I am not perfect, as I wrote about here (http://www.milehighmamas.com/2009/07/14/mama-hyde/).
Criticism of my parenting strikes a raw nerve, as I know it does for many others.
Congrats on the article, my friend. You look mahvelous, too! Nice, authentic, high-road smack down of Stephanie, too! Knowing some background of you and Tessa, you have my full support, understanding and acceptance of the how, when, where, & why of your parenting. Mr. Newly 8 has been a challenge himself lately, and feel like I sometimes have to defend my approach with his father – which sucks! Your emotional intelligence is off the chart…but I would have loved to have been the venting ear after just reading that comment!
